Uninterruptible Power Supply
Empire Power Systems offers a full range of integrated, quality power solutions and backs them up with the southwest’s largest product support team. Integrated power solutions include switchgear, remote monitoring, automatic transfer switches, generator sets and uninterruptible power supply.
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) solutions range from an under-the-desk UPS to complex, parallel systems upwards of four megawatts. These solutions come in the form of highly engineered flywheel technology systems and proven battery systems with an abundance of ride-through.
Service and Maintenance
UPS systems are complex pieces of highly technical electronic equipment and need regular preventative maintenance (PM). The maintenance intervals can vary from one to four PM visits per year or in some cases, even monthly. This procedure needs to be performed by an experienced, highly trained UPS Technician, skilled in the maintenance and operation of UPS Systems.
During a Preventative Maintenance (PM) inspection, our Field Technicians will perform several visual and mechanical checks. We will inspect for any burned or darkening electrical components (indicating wear/failure), check for loose connections, perform a thermal scan for hot spots, take electrical readings, and perform general cleaning of the unit, just to name a few.
Empire Power Systems is here to provide solutions for your UPS needs.

Batteries are the weakest link and most common critical failure point of a UPS, Empire technicians will check/test the batteries at every scheduled maintenance inspection. They are looking for internal breakdown, external corrosion and bad connections. Battery capacity testing is the only accurate method to evaluate how well your battery back-up system will support your critical load during a power outage.
Our expert technicians use state-of-the-art computerized test equipment. When performed with your power plant (DC rectifiers or UPS) on-line, the test will verify electronics performance and alarm operation. Upon completion of testing, Empire Power Systems provides a detailed, computerized report and analysis.
Benefits of battery capacity testing:
- Ensure reliable backup power
- Protect equipment and critical services
- Locate weak cells and faulty inter-cell connectors
- Use data analysis of batteries to validate warranty claims
- Perform testing per IEEE and customer’s standards
Preventative MAINTENANCE programs
Level 1 - Major
A comprehensive inspection, cleaning, and testing of the Uninterruptible Power System (UPS). The inspection includes a Physical, Electrical, and Operational Characteristics test of the UPS that covers the rectifier, convertors, inverters, control boards, battery chargers, and batteries. This service verifies the display meter is displaying the correct readings by comparing them against a Digital Multi-Meter and an Oscilloscope. With the Oscilloscope we will also monitor the peak output voltages on the battery system and the output voltage of the system to verify a clean sine wave. We check for loose power circuit bus/cables and perform and IR Scan. We test each battery individually for individual resistance and voltage and determine if a battery is in good operational condition. This service requires the system to be in Maintenance Bypass Mode. We recommend performing this service at least annually.
Level 2 - Minor
The inspection includes Physical, Electrical, and Operational Characteristics test of the UPS that covers the rectifier, convertors, inverters, control boards, battery chargers, and batteries. This service verifies the display meter is displaying the correct readings by comparing them against a Digital Multi-Meter. We test each battery individually for individual resistance and voltage and determine if a battery is in good operational condition. We DO NOT put the system in Maintenance Bypass Mode.
